My Policy is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
OUR TERMS OF BUSINESS
These terms will apply to your use of our service.
We strongly recommend that you read these terms carefully and that you print a copy - particularly if you choose to take out insurance cover with us
We may change these terms of use at any time and will display only the current version on our website. If you access our website or use our online cover service after we have changed these conditions you will be accepting the changed versions.
We reserve the right to refuse to offer you a firm quote if you are not eligible for this insurance product.
The Financial Services Authority
My Policy Limited and its trade styles are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the independent watchdog that regulates Financial Services. Our FSA Registration number is 307350.
Our permitted business is advising, arranging, dealing as agent and assisting in the administration and performance of general insurance contracts. You may check this on the FSA's register by visiting the FSA website, www.fsa.gov.uk/register or by contacting the FSA on 0845 606 1234.
Our Service
Our role is to assess your insurance needs and offer a suitable policy which satisfies those needs. In situations where we are able to arrange insurance for you and either make recommendations or offer advice, we shall confirm the position to you in writing. We will not in any circumstances act as an insurer nor guarantee or warrant the solvency of any insurer. You understand that these Terms and Conditions, together with your Proposal Form or Statement of Facts, establish the basis of your contract with My Policy Ltd, whom you have appointed as your independent intermediary.
Insurance Panel
We select motor insurance products from a limited range of insurers. A full list of insurers is available on request. A single provider is used for each of our optional extra policies.
To make sure you get our best deal and to ascertain the most appropriate payment options for you and to protect you from fraud, we use public and personal data from a variety of sources, including a credit reference agency and other organisations. Our search will appear on your credit report whether or not your application proceeds. By agreeing to the terms and conditions you agree to these uses of your information.
Payment of our services
We normally receive commissions from the insurers or product providers with whom we deal with. Some products we offer do not have commission and in these cases we add a fee of up to 15% of the premium for our services.
On all policies we may make charges up to the following amounts for handling your insurances:
| Action | Charges |
| Personal Policy Arrangement Fee | Up to £100 |
| Commercial Policy Arrangement Fee | Up to £500 |
| Permanent Adjustment to Policy | Up to £75 |
| Temporary Adjustment | Up to £50 |
| Change of Address/Registration | Up to £25 |
| Renewal Administration Fee | Up to £100 |
| Finance Arrangement Fee | £25 |
| Amendment to Finance Agreement | £25 |
| Duplicate Certificate of Motor Insurance | £15 |
| Cancellation Charge after the first 14 days | £50 |
| Cancellation Charge within the first 14 days | £40 |
| Credit Card Transaction Fee (% of payment) | 2.5% |
| Debt Recovery | 20% of balance – minimum £30 |
When your policy is arranged you will be informed of the total price to be paid, including any fees, taxes and charges separately from the premium, before your insurance arrangements are concluded. This will also be displayed within your welcome documentation.
If you pay your insurance by installments, an interest charge will apply. We will tell you the interest rate when you agree to buy.
All insurance premiums include Insurance Premium Tax at the current rate, which is collected by HM Government. We are not aware of any other taxes or costs payable to any other organisation for your insurance.
Handling Client Money and/or Insurer Money
We collect and hold money as agent of the insurer/policy provider. We will not pay you the amount of any interest that we earn from investing your money before paying it to the insurer.
Provision of Cover
Cover cannot be granted in the absence of premium payment, or part thereof. In the event of an initial payment not being authorised, cover may not be deemed to have been afforded in any way. It remains your responsibility therefore to ensure that sufficient funds are available so that cover may commence.
Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for providing complete and accurate information, which insurers require in connection with any proposal for insurance cover. This is particularly important before taking out a policy and at renewal, but it also applies throughout the life of a policy. When obtaining quotations through this website, if you fail to disclose any material fact or other information material to the insurance this could invalidate the policy and mean that claims may not be paid. You should check all details on any proposal form or Statement of Facts and pay particular attention to any declaration you may be asked to sign.
You should read all insurance documents issued to you and ensure that you are aware of the cover, limits and other terms that apply. Particular attention should be paid to any warranties and conditions as failure to comply with them could invalidate your policy. Any points which you do not understand should be communicated to us within seven days. You understand that, should you have left off your proposal form details of any person who will drive, accidents, claims, convictions, or modifications to your vehicle, then in the event of a claim your policy will be made void from inception and the claim refused.
Upon receipt of your policy documentation a fourteen day cooling-off period becomes effective. Should you find that the policy is unsuitable for your needs, you may cancel at any time within this period by informing us in writing and returning your documents. In addition to any charge made by your insurer for time on risk, a charge of £40.00 may be made by My Policy for the administration of your policy at that point.
We will request at inception of a new policy and renewal of an existing policy a copy driving licence for all drivers named on the policy. Failure to comply with all of our documentation requests in a timely manner will result in the commencement of cancellation procedures.
No guarantee of Driving Other Vehicles cover can be given until the Certificate of Insurance is issued. If the cover applies, it will be shown on the Certificate of Insurance.
Where you inform us that your vehicle is fitted with an engine immobiliser, this becomes a condition of your policy and, as such, unless there is an immobilizer fitted and/or it is in good working order, no indemnity against theft of the vehicle will apply. Proof must be supplied in the form of a certificate from an approved person/organisation and must be supplied at inception of the policy.
You should inform us immediately of any changes in circumstances that may affect the services provided by us or the cover provided by your policy. If unsure about any matter, please contact us for guidance.
My Policy is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
Agreed Procedure
- You should co-operate fully with our procedures - particularly in supplying all information and documentation that we require promptly and within a maximum of three weeks from receipt of these documents where appropriate. Failure to do so may lead to the commencement of cancellation procedures.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that you hold a current cover note/Certificate of Insurance.
- Any refund of premium following a mid term adjustment will only be credited to you or any finance company involved in funding your premium when we receive it from your Insurance Company, usually up to 6-8 weeks after any amendment.
- Failure to co-operate with My Policy during the request for information or assistance in the gathering of information at the time of an accident or claim may result in the commencement if cancellation procedures.
Installment Terms
Where you have selected to pay via a payment plan, the deposit paid represents cover that has been afforded to you and the whole of the annual premium will be paid to the insurance company by My Policy and will be funded by a third party Premium Finance company. Failure to make installment payments may ultimately lead to the cancellation of your policy. In the event that we make a formal demand for the repayment of your borrowing and you do not make full repayment or satisfactory proposals to us within 28 days, we may disclose this to credit reference agencies, who will record and proceed to recover the outstanding debt.
Complaints and Compensation
We aim to provide you with a high level of customer service at all times, but if you are not satisfied, please contact our Customer Service Manager who will advise you how to proceed.
Having followed our Customer Complaints Procedure, if you are still not satisfied, you may refer your query to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of insurance, size of the business (if a commercial customer) and the circumstances of the claim. Insurance advising and arranging is covered for 90% of the claim. Further information about compensation scheme arrangements is available from the FSCS.
Cancellation of Insurances
You should make any request for the cancellation of a policy in writing and any relevant certificate of insurance should be returned to us. In the event of cancellation, charges for our services will apply in accordance with our schedule of charges. The terms of your policy may allow insurers to retain the premium in full or to charge short-period premiums in the event of cancellation. Details of how your insurer charges for cancellation will be shown in your policy document.
The cancellation of policies cannot be backdated and cancellation will only be processed from the date we receive your request in writing (available to download) together with the certificate of insurance.

Any shortfall in premium following cancellation will be your responsibility. By insuring with us you irrevocably authorise My Policy to deduct any such shortfall from any refund generated under any policy held in your name where appropriate.
How your insurance policy was paid for will result in different requirements following your request – detailed below:
Full One off Payment
Any refund due from your insurer less any applicable charges will be forwarded to you upon receipt from your insurance company. This usually takes between 6 to 8 weeks.
Direct Debit Payments
Any refund due from your insurer less any applicable charges will be forwarded to the third party finance company upon receipt from your insurance company. This usually takes between 6 to 8 weeks.
It is your responsibility to keep up with the original agreed payments until the refund is received by the finance company and to settle any outstanding amount due after any refund has been forwarded.
On occasions such as when a claim has been reported or made on a policy there will be no refund due and you will be liable to continue making the agreed payments until the balance is settled.
Please note some Add-On policies such as legal expenses or breakdown assistance are non refundable.
Failure to pay any monies outstanding to My Policy following the cancellation of your insurance policy will result in the debt being passed to a third party debt recovery company. This will result in the debt increasing by 20% (subject to a minimum £30 fee) to cover the cost of pursuing the monies. Any no claims discount will not be released until such debt is cleared.
Personal Data & the Data Protection Act
All personal information is treated by us as confidential and is processed in accordance with the relevant legislation. We will not use or disclose personal information without your consent, other than in the normal course of arranging and administering your insurances, except where we are compelled by law (including by regulators or law enforcement agencies) to disclose such information. In such instances personal information held by us may be disclosed on a confidential basis, and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, to such third parties.
My Policy may use your information together with other information for administration, marketing, customer service and for profiling your purchasing preferences. We will disclose your information to the insurer, our service providers and agents for these purposes. We will take it that you have consented to our necessary processing of your sensitive personal data. You have a right to ask for a copy of your information (for which we may charge a small fee) and to correct any inaccuracies.
My Policy and our carefully selected business partners may contact you by mail, telephone, SMS, fax or e-mail to let you know about any goods, services or promotions, which may be of interest to you.
If, at any time, you do not wish your information to be used for these purposes, please advise us.
Claims Handling Arrangements
If your vehicle is involved in an incident, or you wish to discuss or make a claim, please call us. My Policy Ltd, or our Accident Management partner company, will employ due care and skill if we act on your behalf in respect of a claim. My Policy may receive referral fees from claims management partners for recommending the services they provide.
You should be aware that in the event of a claim, no premium refund will be issued by the insurer if the policy is cancelled. My Policy Ltd or our partners will, where appropriate, authorise solicitors to act on your behalf in connection with your claim, and will conduct the claim in a manner we see fit.
Appointed solicitors will receive compensation monies, and endorse cheques made payable to you.
